Meet Captain Kyle Wohlgemuth

The ocean called to Kyle long before he ever stepped behind the helm. Born under the sign of Pisces, his connection to the sea began as a young boy along the rugged Northern California coastline of Fort Bragg, where mornings meant waking to blue jays along the Noyo River and preparing for adventure before the fog lifted off the harbor.

At just five years old, Kyle and his brother would gather fishing gear and coax life into the family’s tiny 10-foot wooden dinghy, the John Boy, powered by a vintage 5-horse outboard that carried them into a world of salt air, tides, and freedom. His grandfather — a seasoned commercial fisherman with decades on the Pacific — became his first mentor, teaching him not only how to fish, but how to respect the ocean.

By age 12, Kyle was already crewing aboard commercial fishing vessels, learning the realities of life at sea. At 16, he was running hundreds of miles offshore aboard the Fishing Vessel Misty, chasing salmon and albacore through the unpredictable waters of the Pacific for weeks at a time. Northern storms, hydraulic repairs at sea, sleepless nights on deck, and the relentless pursuit of fish shaped the captain he would become.

Between commercial seasons, Kyle returned home to Huntington Beach, where he purchased a 17-foot Boston Whaler at just 18 years old and began exploring Catalina Island and the Southern California coast with his loyal dog Cleo by his side. Those countless crossings and fishing trips turned Catalina into his second home and the Pacific into his classroom.

“Respect for the ocean is what Grandpa taught me,” Kyle often says. “She’s a powerful beast when she wants to be.”

Over the years, Kyle expanded his experience far beyond fishing alone — First Officer of 100-ton cruise vessels, navigating crowded harbors, and serving as a captain for Sea Tow, where he developed an elite understanding of seamanship, safety, rescue operations, and vessel management in every kind of condition.

Today, Captain Kyle combines that lifetime of offshore experience with a passion for hospitality aboard Sailor Charters. Born and raised in Huntington Beach, Captain Anthony is the kind of mariner people spend a lifetime hoping to find — equal parts elite seaman, trusted teacher, seasoned mechanic, and lifelong friend. His energy is contagious, his confidence calming, and his passion for the ocean impossible to miss from the moment he steps aboard.

With a career spanning tug boats, landing craft, tow boats, cruise vessels, fishing vessels, and private yachts, Anthony has built a reputation along the West Coast as a captain who can handle anything the ocean delivers. Whether threading a vessel through tight harbor traffic, navigating offshore weather, teaching yacht owners how to confidently pilot their own boats, or putting clients on fish when conditions get tough, he brings a level of experience that only comes from thousands of hours at sea.

Anthony’s knowledge of Southern California waters runs especially deep. As a former Catalina Island resident and harbor employee, he spent years learning every hidden contour, current line, bait zone, and productive fishing break surrounding Catalina, San Clemente Island, Tanner Bank, and the offshore grounds beyond. The spots most boats pass by unnoticed are often the ones Anthony knows best.

But what truly sets Captain Anthony apart is who he is when the rods aren’t bent. Calm under pressure and endlessly upbeat, he carries himself with a steady confidence that instantly puts everyone around him at ease. Mechanical problem offshore? He’s already solving it.
